Sharon's Honey Wheat Bread

Updated: Oct 23, 2019

Let's Get Started!

1/2 c. honey

1 1/2 tsp. salt

1 Tbsp. oil

2 c. warm water

1 Tbsp (or 1 packet) yeast

3.5 - 5 cups of whole wheat flour

Wheat Tips:

  • From the store - buy Wheat Montana's Prairie Gold or King Arthur Wheat

  • Grinding at Home: WHITE wheat is best. Red wheat tends to a heavier bread.

Directions:

Combine honey, salt, oil, and water together in large bowl. Add 2 cups of the flour first THEN yeast. Blend until flour is wet. Add remaining flour. Usually 4 to 4 1/2 cups is all you'll need but some days it will be sticky and you'll need more.

Knead on floured surface by hand (or in your stand mixture, like a kitchen aid or bosch) for 5-10 minutes. Closer to 10 minutes if by hand. Dough should be smooth and elastic when ready.

Roll into loaf and place in greased loaf pan. Cover with towel and let rise for 30-40 mins.

Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes. Color will be a deep brown when done - not burnt, but definitely a deep, golden brown.
