My mother in law is a master pie maker. This is the crust that convinced me I do like pie crust.
Let’s Get Started!
Ingredients
1 1/8th c. all-purpose flour
½ tsp. salt
3/8th -1/2 c. shortening
3-4 Tbsp. ICE water (literally with ice)
Directions
Mix flour salt and shortening together until mealy. Add water one Tbsp. at a time, as soon as it starts to clump together, STOP. Roll out.
For recipe needing baked crust. Prick crust with fork. Place crust into pie dish and line fully with tin foil (like adding a tin foil pie tin on top of dough). Leave loosely on top so that air can circulate. Bake at 450° for 8 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 5-6 minutes.
For fruit pies, double recipe and bake according to piefilling, or recipe.
