Classic Quaker Oatmeal Cookies

These are the oatmeal cookies I grew up on.

No raisins.

No frilly spices.

Just yummy, yummy cookies.

They're made with shortening and have a delicious crisp and chew. I don't usually add sea salt to the top of mine like the picture shows (not my thing), but do whatever floats your boat!

Let's Get Started!

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 c. BUTTER flavored Crisco

  • 1 c. brown sugar

  • 1/2 c. sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1/4 c. water

  • 1 tsp. vanilla

  • 1 c. flour

  • 1 tsp. salt

  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda

  • 3 c. OLD FASHIONED oats (not quick)

Optional add-ins: 1 cup nuts, or 1 cup butterscotch chips, or 1 c. chocolate chips, or (heaven forbid) 1/2 c. raisins (I'm sorry for judging you).

Directions:

  1. Cream together shortening. sugars, eggs, vanilla and water until light and fluffy.

  2. Add flour, salt and baking soda. Mix just until incorporated.

  3. Add oats and any optional items. Stir in.

  4. Scoop onto lightly greased cookie sheet.

Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 mins.

It's okay if the centers of these cookies seem a bit doughy when you pull them out, they'll be perfect once cooled.

Let cool on pan.
