Sour Cream Sugar Cookies

Let's Get Started!

Ingredients:

1 1/2 c. white sugar

1 c. shortening (Crisco)

2 eggs

1 tsp. baking SODA

1 tsp. baking POWDER

1 c. sour cream

1/2 tsp. salt

Dash of nutmeg (OPTIONAL)

1 tsp. vanilla

3-4 c. flour (start with 3, and keep adding 1/4 c. more until it’s not sticky)

Directions:

Mix soda and sour cream together in a small (cereal) bowl. Set aside. Mix baking powder into flour in another bowl and set that aside too. Combine all other ingredients (shortening, sugar, eggs, salt, nutmeg and vanilla) and beat until blended.  Add sour cream mixture, beat until blended. Add flour mixture, one cup at time until blended. Cover dough in plastic wrap and put in fridge for at least an hour (can be overnight).

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Take chilled dough and roll out on floured countertop (if you don’t have a rolling pin, use a drinking cup). Needs to be between 1/4 and 1/2 inch thick when rolled out.  Cut with favorite cookie cutters. Or a cup for circle cookies. Put on greased cookie sheet.

Bake at 350 for 10-15 minutes. Let cool. Frost with cream cheese frosting.
