Uncle Steve's Famous Rolls

If you know my uncle Steve then I'm pretty sure you know these rolls too. They are requested at every holiday gathering. And perfectly light and buttery all at once.

Let's Get Started!

Ingredients:

1 c. milk, scalded (microwave for about 1 min)

1 Tbsp. yeast

1 egg

1/4 c. sugar

1/4 c. warm water

1 tsp. salt

1/4 c. margarine

4-6 c. white flour

Directions:

  1. Add margarine to hot milk. Let cool to lukewarm.

  2. In mug or small bowl, add 1/4. cup warm water and 1 Tbsp. yeast (if yeast if floating on top of water, don't stir, sprinkle 1 tsp. of sugar on top to make it sink). Let yeast sit in water until it bubbles (3-5 mins)

  3. Pour milk into mixing bowl.

  4. Add salt, sugar and egg to milk mixture and beat together.

  5. Add bubbly yeast mixture and stir.

  6. Add flour in 1 c. increments. Stirring well after each.

  7. You have enough flour when dough is soft and bouncy, but not sticky.

  8. Cover bowl with towel and let rise until doubled in size.

  9. Punch down and shape into rolls (divide dough in half, roll into circle, cut into 12 slices. roll from widest to point).

  10. Place on greased cookie sheet.

  11. Let rise again until double in size.

  12. Bake at 400 degrees for about 10 mins.

  13. Butter tops immediately after removing from oven.
